At present, Webster County has three tours available to those wishing to do a little day-traveling and sightseeing in the county. The Northern Webster County Improvement Council, Inc. offers the Mountain Parkway, Byway, and Backway to those trepid adventurers wishing to learn more about the culture and heritage of that end of the county. The tour follows the old county road between Cleveland and Hacker Valley for the first part of the tour, and then takes the traveler through the backroads of Northern Webster County to such sites as McCray Rocks, Mollohan’s Mill, the Hanging Rocks, the site of the old town of Wheeler, and places such as the former site of Boggs’ Mill. Meanwhile, on the southern end of the County, one can begin on the Webster Artists’ Tour to visit sites rich in artisans and their works, all across Webster County! The artists’ tour can be found at www.websterartists.com. While visiting the County Seat of Webster Springs, be sure to grab a brochure on our “Stroll Through Webster Springs” walking tour, which will take you on a 45-minute to hour-long stroll through the historic heart of downtown Webster Springs. This tour shows many businesses and historic buildings and will give you some great exercise of both body and mind as you learn the history of the buildings and the town, as well as enjoy hospitality that only West Virginians can offer! |
