The present visitor to Webster County will find much to do here, if they’re willing to do a little seeking of their own. In the northern end of the County, the Mountain Parkway, Byway, and Backway offers visitors a chance to glimpse into history at various sites along the way, including, but not limited to Mollohan’s Mill dating to 1894, the site of a Civil War execution (murder depending on your side), and a scenic overlook at the site of the town of Wheeler. Also, while in the area, be sure to visit the unique design and music of the Jerry Run Summer Theater located right off the parkway. If a respite in nature is more your style, then Holly River State Park is an absolute must! It boasts the old one-room Windy Gap School, open on specific weekends, and several miles of hiking trails for the adventurous and able-bodied. Those with disabilities, or more inclined to stay on the level will want to seek out the Laurel Fork Trail, a comfortable looped trail, accessible by wheelchair and dotted with signs telling interesting facts from the park’s past. Moving into Central Webster County, both Webster Springs, and nearby Bergoo have much to offer the traveler. Webster Springs, properly known as the town of Addison, is an historic town with a historic walking tour, several small shops along main street, an authentic salt sulphur well, where one can taste the waters that made the town famous, and several restaurants. Meanwhile, Bergoo offers a rugged contrast to Webster Springs, featuring two small convenience/variety stores, and plenty of camping space for those with tents or trailers. Don’t let the primitive face fool you, though! Bergoo serves as a gateway for access to some of the best fishing and hunting spots in the State of West Virginia!
Test your wings by stopping by Fly, WV and learn about paragliding. Continue the fun by participating in activities at the Camp Caesar 4-H Camp and Camp Cowen Baptist Camp. Enjoy fishing and walking trails at Big Ditch Lake located on Route 82. Following your walk be sure to stop in next door at Riffle's Pottery and view the unique items in the gallery. Other points of interest include the Last Buffalo Park and the Webster County Historical Society Museum.
